Shopping for Swords

Are you looking for a new sword? Here's a quick table of blue items that are dropped or received as quest rewards. Once you find a sword you like, you can check Thottbot for all the details (such as + bonuses and special abilities).

Blue items tend to be effective for a longer period of time than green items. For example, a blue sword that you picked up at level 21 might have similar damage stats of a green sword of level 25. And you must not overlook the + bonuses, e.g +6 STR, +6 STA. You may want to keep a blue item longer if it has great bonuses for your class.

LEGEND

AH = Arathi Highlands, north of Wetlands.

BOE = Bind on Equip. This item will not be bound to you, unless you equip it. You can still trade this item to someone else, or sell it on the Auction House, if you have not yet equipped it!

BOP = Bind on Pickup. As soon as you pick it up, the item will be bound to you. You cannot trade this item to someone else, you cannot sell it on the Auction House. If you bid "Greed" or "Need" for this item, a popup window will appear, asking for your confirmation. Make sure you understand the looting rules of your group. Standard rules are: pass on blue items and BOP items. Then discuss. Priority is given to the player(s) who would actually use the item because it's better than their current item.

BWL = Blackwing Lair, raid instance located inside Upper Blackrock Spire.

DPS = Damage per second. It can be a misleading stat, as sometimes you want a slow sword with high-damage instead of a fast sword with lower damage. It all depends on your class and specialization in the talent tree. If applicable, train (and max out) in both 1H and 2H swords, as combat scenarios require different melee weapons.

Main Hand vs One-Hand = Note the subtle distinction here. A Main Hand sword must be equipped in the Main Hand slot of your character profile. With a One-Hand sword, you have more flexibility. If you are a dual wielder, put the higher-damage sword in your Main Hand slot.

ST = Sunken Temple, or The Temple of Atal'Hakkar, located in the Swamp of Sorrows (east of Duskwood).

STV = Stranglethorn Vale (south of Duskwood). If you're level 30, you should check out STV. Lots of creatures everywhere, lots of quests (that will take you into the early 40's), skinning, and it looks great.

How DPS is calculated: (Average Damage)/speed. Average Damage = (Min Damage + Max Damage)/2
